JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator plays a crucial role in Company, responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, performing pipe takeoffs and estimating piping systems, and ensuring all project requirements are met for successful bidding and project acquisition. The ideal candidate will be proactive in managing subcontractor relationships, possess a solid understanding of mechanical systems, and demonstrate strong communication and analytical skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluate bid specifications and drawings for mechanical systems including chilled water, condenser water, glycol, and refrigeration.
  • Perform accurate takeoffs and estimate associated costs.
  • Ensure all bid documents and subcontractor buyout information are accurately and promptly transferred to the Project Management team. The goal is to achieve 100% turnover of awarded projects within 24 hours of notification.
  • Prepares and maintains status of plan reproduction.
  • Assertively follow up with and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages for supervisor approval.
  • Ensure proper subcontractor coverage on bid day and contact vendors for additional bids as needed.
  • Ensure proper communication of the project schedule or addendums with subcontractors.
  • Submit all bids and budgets by the deadline.
  • Enter all relevant information into the estimating software
  • Review bid requirements thoroughly and ask follow-up questions as necessary.
  • Develop RFIs and clarifications to ensure adequate subcontractor coverage.
  • Perform comprehensive bid day analysis and scoping of specific trades.
  • Create and maintain bid lists ensuring the right subcontractors are selected for each project.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the scope for assigned trades.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management team to review drawings and job costs, identifying areas of concern and any pending subcontractor or material vendor awards.
  • Furnish subcontractors with essential project information, including details about the Project Manager, Site Supervisor, and permit status.
  • Participate in networking events to represent the company and cultivate relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, vendors, and internal departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  • Construction industry for more than 3-5 years in business operations or projects
  • Experience or willingness to learn about mechanical systems, including HVAC and duct systems
  • Understanding of margins and sales, with the ability to read specifications, addendums, and RFIs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Experience with estimating software
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Self-motivated.

  • Ability to work full-time in-office, collaborating closely with business development, operations, engineering, and other departments.
