CONTROLLER
Position Summary
Reporting to the principals (husband and wife) of the family office. The Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities of our family office activities. The Controller will manage all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a growing team with functional responsibility over accounting, financial statement reporting, trust reporting, tax reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll.
Job Description
- Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial activities for the family and the investment office.
- Supervise accounting staff.
- Performs complete general ledger reconciliation including the entire balance sheet and applies accounting knowledge by properly recording transactions in a general ledger.
- Creates accounting records such as bill payments, client invoices, payroll, and others.
- Ensure complete monthly AR collection and AP billing.
- Reconcile each checking and investment account monthly.
- Prepare monthly and annual reporting packages for leadership and family, including budgets, spending and investment performance.
- Design, implement and monitor controls over accounting and household staff.
- Prepare all compliance information required by banking institutions (W-9, W-8BEM, KYC, CRS etc.)
- Create and support budgets for family members and entities.
- Help develop and enhance controls and policies and procedures.
- Special projects.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficient at working with a general ledger. Person must have at least 7-10 years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high-level of accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through.
- CPA highly preferred
- Real-estate and loan issuance, servicing and management experience a plus.
- Self-starter, who will constantly look for better ways to operate and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Excellent planning, communication and leadership skills and potential.
- Experience with investment aggregation and reporting systems is a plus.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Spanish, for interacting with family members, office staff, family businesses, advisors, and vendors.
- Proficient with QuickBooks, Excel and other Microsoft applications.
- A track record of integrity, honesty, confidentiality, loyalty and discretion.
